Top MLB Fantasy Rookies 2011

Online March Madness betting enthusiasts are using this year's tournament as a stop gap between the end of Spring Training in the MLB and the start of the regular season. Last year, fantasy baseball betting online owners saw several rookies make a strong impact on their team. In fact, rookie catcher Buster Posey had the biggest impact of any 2010 rookie, as he was integral in the San Francisco Giant's capture of the World Series for the first time since the late 1950s. With that in mind, here are two rookies that could play a huge role for their teams during 2011.

  • Desmond Jennings OF Tampa Bay Rays - When you have the ability to make a franchise star expendable then you know you are a good prospect. That scenario is the best way to describe Desmond Jennings, the speedy outfielder for the Tampa Bay Rays. Last year, Jennings got into a few games in September, and basically is the reason why Carl Crawford is playing for the Boston Red Sox this season.

For fantasy owners, we hope that Desmond Jennings is on your watch list, as many scouts consider him a better version of Car Crawford. Essentially, he is still getting used to hitting for power as opposed to drawing a walk. Yet, his defensive game and speed are two things that are considered to be better than Crawford's.

  • Kyle Drabek SP Toronto Blue Jays - Drabek, the son of former Pittsburgh Pirate great Doug Drabek, was the center piece of the 2010 trade that saw the Blue Jays part ways with former franchise starter Roy Halladay. Kyle Drabek went 14 and nine with a 2.49 ERA at Double A New Hampshire in 2010, while also recording a no hitter. In limited time with the Jays in September, Drabek showed the type of prowess his father was legendary for.

While Spring Training doesn't compare to the regular season at all, many scouts are saying that Drabek could break camp with the big club as the fourth starter in the rotation. If that is the case, fantasy owners may want to also include Drabek on their watch list as he could be the next franchise starter for the Blue Jays.
