NBA Finals odds have the teams of the last two MVPs, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, in the lead to win the title. Neither of last year's MLB MVPs, Minnesota's Joe Mauer and St. Louis' Albert Pujols, got the chance to play in the World Series, but they're off to great starts in 2010 as they try to lead their team to the Fall Classic.
Mauer decided to sign a big-money extension with his hometown team instead of going to New York or Boston, but he hasn't changed the way he plays the game. Through his first 14 games, Mauer is seventh in the American League with a .347 average, and behind the plate, he has no errors and no passed balls. Mauer is also on pace for 116 RBIs, which would be a career high by far, and if the Twins can get to the playoffs, he should be in the running for another award.
Through his first 14 games, Pujols is tied for the National League lead in homers with six, and he's tied for second with 16 RBIs. Four of his 10 walks have been intentional, and the New York Mets in their epic 20-inning win over the Cardinals, chose to put Pujols on base in extra innings than risk a home run. Pujols is Northbet.com projected to notch 69 homers and 185 RBIs this year, and he obviously won't reach those numbers, but if you had to place a sports bet against Pujols winning his fourth National League MVP, would you? We wouldn't.
