NHL Fantasy Update - Top Fantasy Goalies

The sports wagering sites are ready for the NHL to pick up action again after the All-Star break. There may be a bit of a lull in NHL betting action due to Superbowl betting, but interest in the NHL will pick up in earnest after Super Bowl Sunday.

In fantasy hockey, having the right goalie can mean the difference between winning and losing. Here are the top three fantasy goalies to this point in the season, and the reasons why they are considered the best.

Tim Thomas - Boston Bruins

Tim Thomas revealed earlier this year that his problems last year were due to a nagging injury. He had off-season surgery to correct it, and now he is one of the best goalies in hockey again. This year, Thomas has 25 wins and seven shutouts. He has seven games with one goal against and 13 games with two goals against. He is the top fantasy goalie by a very wide margin.

Carey Price - Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens took a big chance by getting rid of playoff hero Jaroslav Halak and giving the starting goaltender job back to Carey Price. But the move has paid off and Price is one of the top fantasy goalies in the league. He also has 25 wins to go along with four shutouts. The one category that Price tops Thomas is in games with one goal against. Price has nine games with only one goal against.

Jonas Hiller - Anaheim Ducks

People tend to forget about Jonas Hiller because he plays in Anaheim, but his save percentage is .926, which is slightly higher than Carey Price's .920. Hiller has 25 wins and four shutouts. He has 16 games where he has only given up two goals and eight games where he has faced 40 or more shots.
